Not a stranger to car rentals, but a first time attempted customer of this Hertz location. I made a reservation several days in advance, as my car was awaiting a repair in which parts needed to be ordered. My car, although new, was not safe to drive for myself or anyone who was driving near me. NO BRAKES. That's not an exaggeration. Upon arriving at Hertz of Altoona PA, I had my credit card in hand as well as insurance, drivers license and anything else I've ever needed to provide for the rental process. I was traveling at this time for work, so i had cash from expense payouts. I have ALWAYS paid cash for rentals (Enterprise, Sears & Avis are company's I've used in the past) and paying with cash has never been an issue provided I put a card on file for incidentals. Hertz would not allow this, even when I explained the dire reason for needing to rent in the first place. I was denied the rental, and informed the Hertz rep that the no cash policy was going to seem quite ridiculous if i wreck and hurt myself or God forbid other innocent people on the road with me. Not to mention, that would likely become newsworthy that a vehicular dearth could've been EASILY avoided if it weren't for Hertz' NO CASH policy. The card I had planned to use for incidentals was nearly maxed but only for another two days (which would've put us beyond drop off date & available for any additional charges, and thus the reason I chose to pay cash. I would not recommend this company simply due to that policy, and the nature of the reason to rent in the first place. That is a silly policy, and should be waived in cases like mine where a back up is still provided for incidentals. I DO understand the reason for the no cash policy is for "shady" renters who are likely hiding their identity or trying to leave no paper trail back to themselves. THAT I understand. My situation couldn't have been farther from that, so I am highly upset & will never attempt to rent from Hertz or their affiliates ever again.

HORIBLE!! Will never use them or attempt to use them again. I didn't pass their credit check and was unable to rent a car, which wasn't a big deal until they charged me a cancelation fee. I did not cancel, I was denied, I shouldn't be required to pay!

No problems renting a car after my accident. Friendly service.

I rent from this franchise all the time out of here and the airport. I have NEVER had any issues, and ALL the agents were extremely friendly and helpful.

As far as paying cash, I have never heard of any place taking cash. If that was the case, they would be getting robbed all the time
